If you are following Researchbuddy for a while, you would have encountered the term “Lab” quite a lot. What are these labs? What happens there? How to join these labs? We’ll discussion through all these.

What are “Labs”?
Each lab in ResearchBuddy indicates a group of researchers focused on one topic. For example, the BioAI and Data Lab focuses on the research revolving around AI application in Biomedical Sciences. Each lab typically has 1-2 supervisors and 10-30 students. So, in a line, one lab means one specialized research cohort or group.
Students can access these lab’s works by just logging inside the Researchbuddy website and going to their own lab’s page from the Research Labs page. Note that the labs are usually locked and only the assigned students can access a particular lab.

What happens in these Labs?
Well, pretty much everything of Researchbuddy. Here’s a list of things that you’ll find after joining a lab:
- Schedule: You’ll get the meeting schedules with you and your supervisor.
- Meetings: You’ll join the meeting from the website itself. At the scheduled time, the meeting will start inside the lab. You’ll also get a recording of the session later.
- Files: The lab allows you to share files with others and see the resources shared by the supervisors.
- Message: The lab has options for you to send messages to your research buddies and the supervisor privately.
- Feed: There’s a general feed where you can post updates and interact with others’ posts. Typically, this is used for researchers’ introduction, announcements, doubt solving, update sharing, and polls.
- AI Lab Assistant: You’ll get access to an AI Lab Assistant to help you out instantly on frequently seen errors. Along with that, you’ll also have a human lab assistant helping you out in your journey.

How to join these labs?

You can join all of these at once, and there are no barriers from our side. Many of our researchers are seen to join two or three labs at the same time. However, before joining labs, keep in mind about your
- Availability: Each lab will demand 8-25 hours of work per week. As time goes, the difficulty and time commitment will increase, only.
- Interest: You’ll have to learn a lot along the way, so having an interest in the subject matter is a must, or you will be fatigued.
- Prerequisite: Some labs have some prerequisite to join. Check them out before joining.
