ResearchBuddy is an AI-powered platform that connects researchers with supervisors through virtual research labs — guiding them from the first idea all the way to publication. We bring research collaboration, supervision, networking, and AI assistance together in one place, so that doing research no longer means juggling a dozen disconnected tools.

Research, globally, is fragmented. Talented students and early-career researchers struggle to find the one thing that determines whether their work ever gets off the ground: a supervisor who will guide them. Those who do find guidance then scatter their actual work across email threads, document editors, chat apps, video calls, and reference managers — none of which were built for research, and none of which talk to each other. The result is wasted potential. Bright researchers in emerging markets, in particular, are too often locked out — not because they lack ability, but because they lack access to mentorship, structure, and a community that takes their work seriously. ResearchBuddy was built to close that gap.

ResearchBuddy centralizes the entire research journey into a single platform: • Find your supervisor and collaborators. Researchers create rich academic profiles and connect with supervisors and peers who match their field, methods, and goals — something a generic professional network can't do, because it doesn't understand where you are in your research. • Work inside a supervised virtual lab. Supervisors run online research labs where researchers from different countries collaborate on real projects, under real guidance — with messaging, meetings, document sharing, and structured research planning all in one workspace. • Get AI assistance where it matters. Our integrated AI tools help researchers summarize papers, navigate literature, and structure their writing — accelerating the parts of research that slow everyone down. • Move from idea to publication. As a Crossref member, ResearchBuddy is building the infrastructure for labs to publish and assign DOIs to their work — giving research done on the platform global recognition and a permanent scholarly record.

A researcher joins ResearchBuddy and builds a profile around their interests, fields, and skills. They discover labs in their area and join one led by a supervisor whose work fits their ambitions. Inside that lab, a team forms — often across borders — and works together through every stage of a project: refining the question, reviewing the literature, conducting the work, writing it up, and preparing it for publication. The supervisor guides; the platform holds the workflow; the AI assists; and the research gets done. For supervisors, ResearchBuddy turns mentorship into something scalable and sustainable — a way to lead more researchers, run more projects, and be recognized and rewarded for the guidance they provide.

We started with one focused mission: to be the best place in the world to find a research supervisor and do supervised research. From that foundation, we are building outward toward the full research lifecycle — collaboration, AI assistance, and publishing — guided by a belief that great research should be possible from anywhere, for anyone with the talent and the will to do it.

ResearchBuddy began in Bangladesh with a simple observation: the world is full of capable researchers who never get the chance to prove it, simply because the support structures around research are broken or out of reach. We set out to rebuild those structures — supervision, collaboration, and recognition — as software available to anyone, anywhere. Today, researchers and supervisors across dozens of labs use ResearchBuddy to do exactly that. We are a Crossref member, supported by Bangladesh's ICT Division, and growing toward a global community of researchers — but our purpose has not changed since day one: to give every researcher a place to belong, a guide to learn from, and a path to publish.
